Salah has ‘a good chance to win’ this year’s Ballon d’Or

Mohamed Salah believes that he has “a good chance” to win the Ballon d'Or from 2025, after playing a leading role in the title -winning season of Liverpool.

The Egyptian is the striking candidate for the 2024-25 Premier League Player of the Season Award, after helping the Reds to their second title in five years.

Salah has broken the record for most target statements in a 38-game season (46; 28 goals and 18 assists), and is now one way of matching the general record of 47, shared by Andrew Cole (1993-94) and Alan Shearer (1994-95).

The attacker is currently at the top of the goals and assists graphics, and would be the first player in the Premier League history who does this in two separate campaigns (including achieving the performance in 2021-22).

When asked if the balloon d'Or was an important target of him, Salah told Sky Sports: “It used to go crazy. Some things are not in your hands, so you give up in that direction.

“If you go to work, you remind yourself what you want to achieve in the season, so it drives you to work harder. I would like to win it one day. But if it didn't happen, I don't know what to do.

“I'm sure there is a good chance this year to win it, but we'll see.”

Salah finally ended months of speculation around his future by putting Pen on paper on a two -year contract extension in Anfield in April.

At the start of the season, the 32-year-old thought there was a strong chance that he would leave the club at the end of his first deal, which would expire at the end of this period.

However, negotiations seemed promising as the campaign wore and, with his future now, Salah wants to add to the two Premier League titles and Champions League (2018-19) in his trophy cabinet.

When asked about the chance that he will stay in Liverpool at the start of this season, he said: “Based on club history, 10%.

“The philosophy of the club. I know how to deal with their players for more than 30 hours in the past. I did not expect that I would stay. It's not something bad.

“It took six months before the negotiations went very quickly, and from January it got better and better. It took us a while. I think the club was testing me to see if I could still offer or not!

“I really hope we win the Champions League again. I know that the Premier League is always fun for the club and that's how it should be, but I would like to win the Champions League and Premier League again.”
