Skinner challenges ‘rebels’ Man Utd to ‘go through hell’ to deny Chelsea treble

Manchester United -boss Marc Skinner has insisted his “rebels” to “go through hell” to prevent Chelsea from completing the Treble when they collide in the FA Cup final of women.

Sonia Bompastor strives to complete its memorable first season by adding to the triumphs of the Blues' Super League and League Cup.

United finished 16 points behind the WSL champions, but Emma Hayes' Chelsea beat the semi-final on the way to winning the FA Cup of last season.

And Skinner sees no reason why his players cannot repeat that performance if they look at their title successfully defending at Wembley on Sunday.

“In terms of results, Chelsea is the best team and the most difficult team to meet,” said Red Devils' head coach. “If you know something about us, we are rebels and we don't like to just accept that this is the case.

“I am a rebel, my nature is rebellious, so for me it's not to accept that only because they have the best resources, they have to be the best team on every occasion.

“When you set yourself up for that challenge – and you know that you will have to go through hell to win the victory – if you prepare for that, I believe you can do something special.”

Earlier this week it was announced that the American entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian – the husband of Tennis Great Serena Williams – had bought a 10% interest in Chelsea worth a report of £ 20 million ($ 26.5 million).

Skinner is of the opinion that this will put the extra pressure on Bompastor to continue to deliver the goods, while encouraging his side to increase their own performance levels.

“You are financing to win the Champions League and to go unbeaten in your own country,” he said. “In my opinion, their task is becoming increasingly difficult.

“What that does is, if you are an athlete, it just makes you better. The reality is that you don't play Chelsea every week.

“You play them in two events – or maybe three if it is the FA Cup final – but if you can maximize them, you can still beat them because they are still human.”
