Flick urges Barca to end the season strongly despite sealing LaLiga title

Although he had completed the LaLiga title, Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was quickly reminiscent of his team that the season was not over for the opposite Villarreal.

Flick and his players celebrated the 28th top success of the club with an open bus victory parade on Friday, with thousands of fans present.

Barcelona welcomes Villarreal on the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Company on Sunday in what will be their last league match of the campaign.

Flick has led Barcelona to not only the competition title, but also the Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup crowns, those Rivals Real Madrid beat in both finals.

And although Barcelona has won 18 of their last 23 games against Villarreal in Laliga (D3 L2), Flick urged his players to finish the campaign strongly on the home field.

“Yesterday was a holiday and peace. Many players went to party, but those who can party can work,” Flick told reporters.

“It's not an excuse. I want to end the season when we started it.

“It's the last time we play at home, and we want to win. We want to end the season as champions. We did not lose in 2025 (in the competition) and we want to keep it that way.”

Flick enjoyed a dream start for life in Barcelona and won 43 of his 58 games that are in charge (D7 L8) in all competitions.

And the 60-year-old expressed his emotion about the passion of the supporters during the celebrations that took place in the city.

“It was incredible to see the faces, the passion of the people, how they celebrated. It was fantastic to see,” said Flick.

“It would be great to celebrate year after year. Maybe we can do it again next year. We will work for it. It's everyone's title.”

Barcelona has not lost any of their last 17 league matches (W15 D2), their best run in the league since a 19-game run between December 2020 and April 2021 (W16 D3).

Villarreal, however, has won two of their last three against Barcelona in Laliga (L1), with only one victory in their previous 19 visits.

And Flick said his team would get a difficult task against the fifth side, which are looking for a Champions League qualifying place next season.

“We play against great teams and Villarreal have done fantastic work. They won their last four games,” Flick added.

“You can see the hand of their coach and they have important players,” he added.

Asked if he could start with 11 -grown players on Sunday, Flick said the idea was discussed in the club.

“To be honest, we talked about it internally, but we didn't decide. That could be. We wait until tomorrow to see what the team is like,” he said.
