Glasner hails Palace’s ‘togetherness’ after FA Cup triumph

Oliver Glasner praised Crystal Palace's 'being together' after they had protected their very first big trophy by beating Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final on Saturday.

Ebereechi Eze scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute, with Palace set a solid defensive representation to help them get over the line.

Dean Henderson also saved Omar Marmoush's fine, while Daniel Munoz was rejected a second palace goal after the break when Ismaila Sarr had disturbed himself from an offside position.

Palace is the first English club to win their first big title since Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup 2012-13, which also defeated in the final that year.

They are the 45th side that wins the FA Cup, and the first team to win it for the first time since Leicester City in 2021.

It is also a victory that will be eligible for the Europa League-it next season will be their very first appearance in a major European competition.

Glasner, the first Austrian who took the lead over a team in a FA Cup final, praised the attitude.

“To be honest, I can't really believe it, because sometimes when you play this game ten times, you win it once,” Glasner told ITV Sport.

“We scored the first time we were in their half, then we defended … We had a great keeper, a big mentality, a great togetherness.

“I am really proud of the team, of the entire staff and all the honor of them.”

Eze scored for the first time in his career in five consecutive games in all games, with his winner at Wembley his sixth in five games.

With their first shot of the game, Palace scored and their first touch in the city's box.

“This is special, I don't even know what to say. Thank goodness, only God could do this,” said Eze BBC match of the day.

“To the team that has been the best in the world for years to show that kind of spirit and energy … Only God.”

When asked about the counterattack that led to his goal, he added: “I couldn't breathe! City keeps the ball so good, you have to work so hard to get something from them. If you get in their box, you have to have the chance.

“I have taken a long way. To be in this position now – it's hard to use the right words here.”
