Pep Guardiola insisted that he “had nothing to regret” after the FA Cup defeat of Manchester City against Crystal Palace.
City was beaten 1-0 in the showpiece of Saturday, with Ebereechi Eze's 16th minute strike that sealed a first large trophy for the Eagles in Wembley Stadium.
But the citizens had their chances in the game, where Omar Marmoush saw a fine of the first half saved by Dean Henderson, who was in inspired form for Palace.
Henderson also denied the efforts of Erling Haaland, Josko Gvardiol and replacement Claudio Echeverri, where the city could find a way despite their dominance.
The Guardiola team indeed had 76.7% in this competition, most on Opta's Records (from 2014) in a FA Cup final.
Ruben Dias completed more past (129) than Palace did as a whole team (126). Nevertheless, the 23 shots of the citizens were the most registered (from 2014) by one side that could not score in a FA Cup final.
But it was again a defeat for City, who have now lost 16 games in all competitions this season Hun most in one campaign since 2008-09 (23).
After the full -time whistle, Palace Hero Henderson crashed with Guardiola about slowing the goalkeeper through the Palace of Restart through the entire meeting.
Guardiola said his city side never tries to waste time because he “wants to play the game like people earn to watch”.
“He defended his position, we defended our position. It's a waste of time,” said Guardiola.
“I understand it in the last minutes, but since one or two minutes? He is British, in English football, you have to play.
'I'm sorry. Everyone can do what they want. We have to score goals. We were not lost because Henderson was a waste of time. In the last minutes I understand [time-wasting]. “
City has now lost the FA Cup final two years in a row (also to Manchester United in 2024). It is the seventh time that they finished second in the competition, with only Manchester United (nine), Chelsea and Everton (both eight) do more.
But Guardiola was happy with how his party performed a year ago compared to their display against their city rivals.
“Congratulations. We did everything. Nothing to regret. In the last two games we were confronted with teams that are so deep,” Guardiola said.
“We made a lot. If you can't score goals, you can't win.
“We are sad because we have not won, but we played much better, better than against United last season. We did everything. We have created many opportunities.
“In the last two games we shot 50 times. Football is sometimes so. We did everything and they defended well. We have created opportunities.
“We really checked the transitions well. Unfortunately we couldn't win and we congratulate Crystal Palace.”
