Brilliant Nice hit woeful Brest for six to secure Champions League qualification

Nice has insured a place in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) of next season, so that a sizzling start was on its way to Brest 29 6-0 on the last day of the Ligue 1 season.

While a top-four place was on the line, Nice did not show any signs of nerves, storming a lead of two goals in the opening of 20 minutes, shortly after Gaetan Laborde hit the woodwork to prove the intention of the home team.

Evann Guessand was eventually the man to open the score, who neatly designed a sliding challenge before he shot along another defender to drive a low shot past Marco Bizot.

Supported by his 12th league goal of the season, Guessand soon returned the provider to accompany the deep delivery of Melvin Bard for Laborde to go home.

The nightmare of Brest took place when the referee pointed to the place after the awkward challenge of Bradley Locko on Badredine Bouanani.

The 20-year-old quickly grabbed the penalty in the opposite corner of Bizot's dive, so that the UCL qualification was effectively protected before the game had even reached the half hour.

Bouanani threatened to add to his and Nice's Tally in the opening phase of the second period while Brest continued to struggle defensively.

The attacker forced Bizot to make an exceptional stop with his left hand, just a few moments before he tried an attempt wide from the keeper's left post. The changes of Franck Haise continued to open the visitors as desired, so it was only a matter of time before a deserved fourth, and then arrived a fifth goal.

Firstly, former Brest -Leenlaborde showed his technical quality to Volley Home's second goal from Bard's Lofted Cross, before Terem Moffi completed the keeper to score his first goal since she returned from a serious knee injury.

There was still time for Ali Abdi to tap home in stop time to complete the routes, close the perfect display, because Nice celebrated a fourth place, and their return to UCL qualification for the first time since 2017-18, while Les Pirates must be satisfied with ninth after their third defeat in Five Way games.
