Mount hoping UEL final can spark career U-turn after Man Utd injury hell

Mason Mount has spent a large part of his two years at Man Utd wounded since he was injured at Chelsea, but is back to full fitness and has set his sights on Europa League Glory

Mason Mount hopes that Europa League can help Glory in re -launching his stuck career in Manchester United. England Star Mount has passed a difficult time since entering United from Chelsea in a £ 55 million deal in 2023.

The attacking midfielder spent a large part of the last two seasons with serious injuries and admitted that it was difficult to see for two years of his career effectively wagging away.

Mount also suffered the heartache of the English team that lost the Euro 2020 final to Italy in Wembley and admitted that he is still bearing the pain of that defeat.

But Mount said that the beating of Tottenham in the all-or-nothing Europe League final in Bilbao would go any to make up for those setbacks and disappointments.

“The football side of it and the injuries is something that I clearly did not see coming,” said Mount, who came from the bank to score twice in the 2-1 victory of United over Athletic Bilbao, who took their place in the final.

“That has not been easy. I had many days on the treatment bed where I want to train. I have been games in the stands while I want to play. But those were the circumstances.

“And I think you remember that the losses are difficult. I have had quite a bit at Wembley and they have stayed with you for a long time.

“I don't know how many boys have had too much experience of it, but I can tell you that I have had quite a few losses and I don't want that feeling anymore. We will do everything we can to win that game. You really appreciate it more.”

“If you win, you realize that feeling and you always want that feeling when you play in the final.

Mount admitted United owed their loyal fans a trophy, after he brought them through the worst season of the Premier League era club and the most disastrous since the relegation in 1973-74.

“As a group we always try to block the sound,” said Mount. “But we know the situation in which we find ourselves.

“We know that the competition is not good enough and we have not been good enough to do that, but the Europa League is something we can look forward to as a final. We want to win the final. It is a trophy and it is Champions League football next season.

“We will do everything in our power to win that game. But we will not forget what we have done in the competition and our competition form.

“That is something we have to work on for next season. We know that we have to work on that. This is a final and if we can win it, it can be a positive goal of a difficult season.

“Every game we play at home, they are there. The fans support us, they are loud.

“We have to give something back. Winning the final may not solve everything, but it gives them something to cheer about and it is a trophy. Hopefully we can do that and be proud of it.”
