‘I am a loyal person’ – Mourinho denies holding Portugal talks

Jose Mourinho has denied that holding conversations to lead the national team of Portugal and confirmed his dedication to Fenerbahce.

Mourinho arrived in Istanbul last year as a big fanfare, but his first campaign that was in charge of Fenerbahce was anything but a roaring success.

They were eliminated from the Europa League in the last 16 phase by Rangers and went out in the last eight of the Turkish cup and lost to fierce Rivals Galatasaray.

Galatasaray also sealed the super lying title by beating Kayserispor 3-0 on Sunday, so that an unassailable eight-point lead was set up on Fenerbahce with two games to play.

Yet Mourinho has still been associated with roles elsewhere, and reports in his native Portugal recently suggested that he could replace Roberto Martinez at the end of the Selecao Nations League campaign.

Portugal is confronted with Germany in the semi -final of the competition, which they won in June, with Spain or France awaiting the victors in the final.

Mourinho, however, denied those reports during a press conference after his team beat 2-1 with 2-1 Sunday and said: “Yes, I can deny that I had a meeting with the Portuguese football federation. I am a loyal person.

“The only time I had direct contact with a club, I inquired Fenerbahce. It wasn't now, it was in January.

“I had a meeting with a club. I did not accept the offer. But I already informed my club before the meeting.”

Mourinho has fueled the flames of the rivalry of Fenerbahce with Galatasaray since he arrived in Turkey, and he took a different way to the 25-time champions on Sunday.

Galatasaray allowed goalkeeper Fernando Muslera to take a late penalty when 2-0 in their wins of title clinches, of which Mourinho believes it was in bad taste.

“With regard to the way in which Galatasaray celebrates the title, I think when you celebrate something, it shows your human dimension,” said Mourinho.

“They celebrate the title with one episode that exactly reflects what they are, that is when they won 2-0 and the goalkeeper had a fine in the 90th minute. I think that is a perfect picture of what they are.”
