Midfielder of Manchester City, Kevin De Bruyne, said it is unlikely that he will play at the Club World Cup due to concern about picking up an injury prior to his departure from the club.
The 33-year-old leaves City after a decade in the club with six Premier League titles, and winning the Champions League and Club World Cup in 2023.
The Belgian is under contract until 30 June, which includes three World Cup matches in the United States, but De Bruyne said he would have to look out at his own interests.
“I think I have to take care of myself in a way, because if I get injured in the club World Cup, what am I going to do? Nobody is going to take care of me at that time,” he said after the FA Cup final in quotes by the Athletic.
“So there is probably a good chance that I will not play it, but I don't know. I am just a player. I don't make any rules, I can't do anything about it.
“So in the end, as I said, I will probably have to take care of myself.”
The tournament of 32 teams runs from 14 June to 13 July.
