With a dire domestic record, a UEL loss would leave Ruben Amorim in real danger

Road your mind back to November 2024 when the Manchester United -Hierarchy had realized that they had made a mistake to continue Erik ten Hag and then decided to illuminate him from his duties.

At that time, Ruben Amorim was seen as the savior of United. A young, hungry and emerging coach with great ideas and a great track record. A track record in which he went with an astonishing Winstrecord of 88.2% in the 17 games he had taken over this season before moving to Old Trafford.

Prior to the 2024/25 campaign, Amorim's lowest profit rate with the Portuguese giants 54.5% of 11 games (2019/20) was, but once he had made the team he wanted and played in a certain way, a win of 70% (2022/23, 28 win of 40 games – still good) was his worst shows.

Amorim was supposed to be Manchester United's Savior

Sir Jim Radcliffe and his board would therefore make everyone believe that here was the man to eventually take on the cloak of Sir Alex Ferguson. To succeed where all David Moyes, Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Ten Hag had failed.

And yet we are here, almost six and a half months since his first match with the Red Devils and both United are someone who is disguised as Amorim, the Portuguese just don't have what is needed to manage a real top club or, as has been said so often, the players in the club are simply not on it.

Ruben Amorim about the problems in Manchester Unitedopta performing statistics

Although there can certainly be an argument that every manager and his style are not suitable for a certain club, the perilous situation of United is quite unique.

All the aforementioned managers have been successful elsewhere, and in Amorim, Van Gaal, Mourinho and ten Hag's case that has been at least with a competition or cup win.

That is why it is lazy to label everyone who takes the job in the United Dugout as 'not good enough'.

United has lost 13 of the 25 Premier League matches under Amorim

What is quite remarkable in the case of Amorim is how badly performed his united side, at least in his own country.

With one more match left from the Premier League season, the Red Devils are in the 16th position and they are only one point and one place above their Europa League -Laatste opponents, Tottenham.

In the 25 English top games that he has supervised, only six of these have been won. Another six were drawn with 13 lost.

That stat and a corresponding profit percentage of only 24% would be bad enough, but if you also consider that United has always scored goals and yet they are only 30 in those 25 games, it really brings some of the problems in the focus that the manager has.

40 goals were also admitted to the competition at that time, so it is clear that the problems are not alone with those who play staff in attacking functions.

Another story in Europe

To give even further perspective on how far United has fallen in their own country, three of their competition profits came in 24/25 against all three degraded parties – Ipswich, Southampton and Leicester. Fulham, Everton and an UIT-sorts Manchester City, who themselves have endured a terrible campaign according to their standards, were the others.

In Europe, however, it was a completely different story.

10 games played under Amorim in the Europa League have achieved eight victories and two draws. 28 Goals have scored and 15 admitted, both statistics a better return than in the 15 games of Erik ten Hag in the competition for United.

The profit percentage in that competition for the Portuguese (only united) is a healthy 80% that is much more in line with his time at sport and could suggest that a more European way of playing is one that apparently fits this manager.

Although he has a number of very experienced players who should do much better on a regular basis, it is not to escape that the Premier League is a physically demanding and perhaps less technical competition than where Amorim is used to.

His insistence is therefore to be admired in a certain way; However, there will be a point that one has to make up the balance and admit when something does not work.

Loss the Europa League final and it can be curtains for Amorim

Prior to the Europa League final, the 40-year-old has hinted that that moment is approaching quickly.

“Everyone here must seriously think about many things,” he said.

“Everyone thinks of the final (Europa League). The final is not the problem. We have bigger things to think about.

“I am talking about myself and the culture in the club and the culture in the team. We have to change that. It is a decisive moment in the history of the club.

“We have to be really strong in the summer and be brave because we will not have next season if we start like this, if the feeling is still there, we have to give space to different people.”

Were united to fail in their search for kings of Europe, that the process could accelerate for a new manager, although all that will do, the club is in essence to be reduced. The misery of United cannot be easily laid with every door of every new manager.

There is now an inherent need that there is a more forensic perspective at exactly what should change, and a complete and frank discussion about why good players cannot get their act together at one of the most legendary institutions of football.
