Ruben Amorim's summer transfer plans will be determined by the end results of the Europa League against Spurs, but Rio Ferdinand thinks there are a handful of players who have proven that they can understand the tactical plan of the head coach
Rio Ferdinand has appointed eight players of Manchester United who have shown signs of fitting the tactical system of Ruben Amorim – even though the former defender believes that the head coach would like to send 10 stars and bring in a similar amount this summer.
United goes to the Europa League final from Wednesday evening against Tottenham Hotspur in a slightly more relaxed mood than their opponents, but success or failure in Bilbao will determine how extensive the desired overhaul of Amorim's team will be this summer. Qualifying for the Champions League will considerably increase the club's budget and attract larger name players compared to whether they are not in the European competition at all next season.
But Ferdinand feels that a handful of players, led by club captain Bruno Fernandes, has shown that they can succeed in Amorim's 3-4-3 formation.
“I think he has many players,” said Ferdinand. “Bruno, (Alejandro) Garnaacho, Amad, (Nousair) Mazraoui has done a decent work when he comes in, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire, (Matthijs) De Ligt, Casemiro, has again adjusted.”
Ferdinand thinks it would be ridiculous for United to change head coach if Amorim is unable to win the final of tonight against Spurs because he still needs a transfer window to shape his team.
The former Sporting Lisbon -Baas is starting to get criticism because of their gloomy Premier League campaign, which has seen 18 defeats to go with a competition.
But they have reached the last unbeaten of tonight in Europe and the TNT Sports Pundit added: “I am not saying that all those players are the right players, because I think the biggest problem they have is recruitment.
“They should not recruit the best players, not the most talented players, the players who fit in Amorim's playing style, which is a physical style of player, dynamic, aggressive, powerful runner who can understand Hus tactics.
“As soon as he gets a few of those players on board, I really think you'll see a different output than this team.”
