Steven Gerrard returns to Rangers “Vinkt many boxes”, but Kris Boyd thinks the club still doesn't know who they want as their new manager.
Formers Rangers -Baas Gerrard is linked to a return to Glasgow, three and a half years after stopping the management to take the lead at Aston Villa.
Gerrard, who led Rangers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021, has been unemployed since the Saudi side Al-Attifaq in January.
Sky Sports News understands that Gerrard and Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti are only two names that have been approved about taking the lead.
Former Southampton, Swansea and MK down manager Russell Martin is another name that is being considered.
Danny Rohl, ex-Luton Town boss Rob Edwards and former Bournemouth and Wolves manager Gary O'Neil are also linked to the track.
Although Kris Boyd can see the benefits of the former Liverpool captain Gerrard return, he is not convinced that the club has a preferred candidate.
“Rangers must get someone who understands, gets, can handle the pressure and demands,” former Ibrox striker Boyd told Sky Sports News.
“Steven showed that he can do that in Glasgow for three years. He can deal with it, he has had it all his life.
“That there will be many coaches and managers who will be afraid of the Rangersbaan for me because of the pressure and requirements that are accompanied by it.
“You need someone who can handle the pressure every day, bear the burden of the football club and bring it forward.
“Yes, [Gerrard] Ticks many courses. His back room staff In the past Michael Beale returned to Rangers as a manager and that didn't quite work out, so he should change everything I would imagine.
“I think there is still a long way to go that will be the Rangers manager. I know they have spoken with people, they have experienced a long list, but it changes every day.
“I don't think Rangers have made their decision. Many people guess who will be the next manager.
“Nothing really comes from the club, there is nothing coming from people that would know.
“I don't think Rangers went through that list and the person they want to have now received.”
