Tottenham's plans to make a flower tribute to Athletic Bilbao -oral legend Pichichi were thwarted by UEFA JobSworths on the eve of the Europa League final.
Spurs arrived armed with flowers for Captain Heung-Min Son to place for the famous Pichichi-Buste, as tradition is for those who are playing in the San Mames Stadium for the first time.
Son expected to carry out the tribute before training in the stadium on Tuesday, only for UEFA to step in and stop.
The stadium is transferred to UEFA for the event and they have control of all logistics, not athletic Bilbao.
Tottenham officials were not impressed that they led them to believe that they could lay the flowers on the eve of the game, but not on the day of the game.
UEFA claimed that Spurs were not stopped, but participating that the ceremony should only take place if they played against Athletic Bilbao, and not against a neutral team in the San Mames Stadium.
Manchester United made their Pichichi primary care Prior to the first stage of the semi-final of the Europa League in Bilbao, when they defeated Athletic. The tradition has been around since 1927.
Rafael Moreno, a forward inside, better known as Pichichi, died in 1922 at just 29 years old. He is an icon of Athletic Bilbao and his name lives on through an annual price made at the top scorer of La Liga.
Pichichi, born in Bilbao's Casco Viejo, scored 83 goals in 89 official games in an era for La Liga. He scored more than 200 for the club if friendly competitions are taken into account.
He won five regional championship titles and four Copas. He played for Spain in the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp and won a silver medal.
