Girona star chastised by manager Michel Sanchez as character concerns grow

Dutch striker Arnaut Danjuma was one of the most coveted strikers in Europe after helping guide Villarreal to the semi-finals of the Champions League, but he has suffered several difficult spells since then. A move to Everton, a return to the Yellow Submarine, and now at Girona his character is being questioned.

Danjuma became persona non grata at Villarreal after an argument with captain Raul Albiol, with the former laughing in the veteran's face during training. He managed to patch things up with manager Marcelino Garcia Toral, but in search of guaranteed minutes he moved on loan to Girona.

However, Michel Sanchez did not feel the love for him on his return to La Ceramica, where he was sent off at half-time.

“He was not good, I think he is not connected to the team, to his teammates. He wants to do the best, but starts from the individual perspective and not from the collective perspective. I want him to think about the collective first, because otherwise it's difficult because he has to take the ball and win everything himself and always do his thing, and no. I collectively need more from him,” he told Relevo.

Danjuma has played eighteen games this season, including three for Villarreal, scoring his two goals. For the Blanc-i-Vermells, Danjuma has provided two assists but has struggled to replicate his best performance for Michel's side, who have been crippled by injuries. Going forward, it will be interesting to see if Michel continues to have confidence in him.
