Ruben Amorim has said that tomorrow he will leave Manchester United if the club's board and fans no longer want him – after their Europa League loss to Spurs had left him on the bottom.
Brennan Johnson scored the winner in the Bilbao final to leave United without chances of European football next season, sitting in 16th place in the Premier League table in the middle of a mountain of problems on and next to the field.
Amorim took over at United in November with the club 13th in the table. They slipped three places with Amorim in the trial from the three cup competitions. But the Portuguese coach believes that he is still the right man for the job.
“If the board and the fans have the feeling that I am not the right man, I will enter the next day,” Amorim said. “But I won't stop. I have faith in my work. As you can see, I will not change anything in the way I do things.
'At the moment I am not here to defend myself. It's not my style. I have nothing to show to the fans. At the moment [I need] A little bit of faith. “
Shaw: Amorim is 100 percent the right man
After the final, a depressed Luke Shaw claimed that Amorim is the right man – where every player “has to ask ourselves if we are good enough to be here”.
“We are all stripped, it's not how we saw the outcome honestly,” Shaw said. “But it's not just tonight, this whole season, it's not long enough. I think we all have to interrogate if we are good enough to be here.
“For a team like Manchester (United), for the season we have had, it is not acceptable. We know that we all know, I know that. It is not where Manchester (United) should be.”
But asked about Amorim's references, Shaw said: “I can now say 100 percent that he is the right man. The results have not been good at all. I have been here for a long time and have experienced several managers.
“Ruben, for me, I talk on my behalf and I can talk on behalf of all players, he is 100 percent the right manager to bring us back to where this club should be.
“It will be a very difficult process, we as players, we have abandoned many people, including Ruben. I will say it again, we have not been good enough throughout the season.”
SHAW – who was involved in the disaster that defended in the run -up to Johnson who crossed the line for the winner of Spurs – apologized to the fans and admitted that the club is now on “Rock Bottom”.
“A lot has to change, it's clear to see,” Shaw said. “That is why I say that Ruben is 100 percent the right person. He knows what needs to be done in this club, I believe he will do everything to make that change and bring Manchester back to the top.
“I think the fans? I understand that they will now be irritated. And rightly so. But everything I can say is so much thanked for the support.
“Everywhere we go, including where we are in the table, the results we have had this year, they have always been there.
“I can only first thank a lot for your support, and secondly we are very sorry for what they had to go through this season. It has not been good enough and I can only apologize for that.
“We have to look at the positives and the only positive thing is that we can only go from here. We are now at the bottom, we have to find a way to drive ourselves back and go back to where this club deserves to be.”
