Son revels in Tottenham’s European glory after long period without trophy

Son Heung-Min said he was the “happiest man in the world” after he has lifted the Europa League to end his wait to win a trophy with Tottenham.

The South Korea International, who came to the club 10 years ago, is the fifth highest goal scorer of Spurs of all time, but had won no silverware on Wednesday to a 1-0 win over Manchester United in Bilbao.

“Wow, a feeling great!” Son told TNT Sports.

“Today is the day that the dream came true. The happiest man in the world to be honest.”

Son was the only member of the Spurs side that lost the Champions League final in 2019 to play a role in another European final six years later.

After a number of near-missers in the past decade, the 32-year-old said he felt the pressure to deliver.

“I felt the pressure,” he added. “I wanted it so badly. The last seven days I dreamed about this game every day. Finally it happened, I can easily rest.

“Today is the day we can celebrate. Maybe I miss the flight (at home)!”

Victory also secures the place of Tottenham in the Champions League of next season, despite coming away from the 17th in the Premier League after a gloomy domestic season.

Son has a huge following in his home country and had a special word of thanks to the Korean fans who stayed up all night to see his success.

“I am very proud to be Korean. I want to thank the Korean fans.

“It was 4 hours (kick -off) and they support me like crazy.”
