Paris Saint-Germain prepares their preparations for the Champions League final against Inter Milan while the side of Luis Enrique on Rank Outsiders Reims in Saturday's French Cup final is an opportunity for the showpiece, which is not the priority for both participants.
Winning the biggest prize of European club football is the main goal for PSG since the club's takeover by Qatar Sports Investments almost 15 years ago.
Everything else is secondary in comparison and especially now that they are just 90 minutes away from lifting the Champions League trophy for the first time.
However, Luis Enrique knows that the preservation of the French cup and therefore completes a clean sweep of the domestic awards, can only increase trust for the collision with Inter in the Allianz Arena in Munich on 31 May.
“To be honest, my focus is on both games, the French Cup final and the Champions League,” the Spanish coach was on this week during a press conference on PSG's training base that was organized with the last event in mind.
“The best thing is that there is nothing special for us to prepare for us. We have come so far by playing our football and now it's all about revealing its full power.”
The victory against Reims in the Stade de France would enable PSG to repeat their French competition and cup Double Triumph from last season, during the first Luis Enrique campaign.
Although they have never won the Champions League, they have won the French Cup 15 times a record, including seven times in the past 10 seasons.
“We have to take one thing at the same time. Before we think of the Champions League, our thoughts are at the French Cup final because it is important to win every trophy,” said Ousmane Dembele, PSG's top scorer this season with 33 goals in all competitions.
PSG finished the Ligue 1 season 19 points free from the second place Marseille, a Golf that confirms how far the rest is in France.
Their French Cup-Run, however, is friendly and gave four consecutive tires against opposite opposition since a victory over penalties at Lens in December.
Reims degradation fears
Now they go a side that holds on to their top status by a thread and whose own focus is also just elsewhere.
Reaching the final was huge for Reims, who won the French cup twice during their glory days in the 1950s, but was not that far since 1977, when Saint-Etienne hit them to take the trophy.
Nevertheless, the opportunity was soured, even completely destroyed, after they had fallen on the play-off play-off Place last weekend on the last day of the Ligue 1 season.
The journey to the National Stadium therefore comes between the two legs of the play-off draw against second-class Metz, in which they have to prevail if they have to stay in the elite next season.
The first stage on Wednesday ended in a 1-1 draw, where Reims came from behind to place themselves in a good position before returning home next Thursday.
Coach Samba Diawara is now hopeful that his team can just go out and enjoy the final with the pressure.
“We have to ensure that we recover well and despite trying to enjoy the final. We cannot sacrifice such an opportunity,” he said after Wednesday's game.
“I want my players to enjoy it, really get the most out of the final, without endangering our chances for what follows. I don't want anyone to be injured.”
Reims, whose last great honor was that the competition title was won in 1962, can take faith that they held PSG to attract both competition meetings earlier this season.
