Former UFC double-champ reveals major mistake Ilia Topuria, Islam Makhachev made leaving their divisions

By the end of this year, Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev can both be two-division UFC champions.

UFC lightweight Islam Makhachev leaves its division behind and moves a weight class just like unbeaten rival Ilia Topuria earlier this year when he left his featherweight title.

Topuria and Makhachev will try to join an elite A few hunters who have conquered two divisions by capturing a second belt.

Topuria will meet Charles Oliveira in the main event of UFC 317 on 28 June, while Makhachev will accept Jack della Maddalena later this year.

The decisions of the champions to leave the title came with some criticism, such as Chael Sonen, which suggests that it was a 'sign of cowardice' of Makhakev. A former two-division champion also weighed on Topuria and Makhachacthov classes, not even with their methods.

Henry Cejudo says that Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria should have kept titles to become two -division champions simultaneously

There are various two-division champions in UFC history such as Georges St-Pierre, BJ Penn and Randy Couture.

Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier, Amanda Nunes and Henry Cejudo are the only four in UFC history that at the same time become two-division champions or 'Champ camps', some call it.

Cejudo, a former flight weight and bantam weight champion, says that Topuria and Makhachev should have kept their belts to go for a double camp status.

“I don't think Ilia should ever give up that belt,” said Cejudo on Jaxxon's podcast.

“Hold it, go up, and then when you are considered a double camp, it will be a real double camp.

“Don't forget that you are a multi-division champion. But in reality, to be simultaneously, you have two divisions. There is something expensive about that …”

Henry Cejudo advised the manager of Islam Makhakev against giving up a title

Prior to the title victory of Jack della Maddalena on Belal Muhammad, Makhachev stated that he would go for a double camp status and he would not leave the title regardless of the result.

Well, Makhachev did it in the end, but before he did this, Cejudo told their manager Ali Abdelaziz not to let the title not let go like Topuria.

“A few days ago before Islam decided to give up, I called Ali,” said Cejudo.

“I sent Ali a message. I am so much, hey, Ali. I just want to let you know: he shouldn't do it. He should not give up that belt, guy. Because there is something about having that status at 155 pounds and 170. Once you win it, you can let it go.

'There has been alone [four] In history. “

Former uniform champion Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson responded to Cejudo and said that the UFC 'tried to stop' to simultaneous two -division champions and that the Makhachev and Topuria promotion forced their titles.

'I don't know if that is [true]”Cejudo replied to Jackson.

“I don't know if that is an official rule. But if your pound for pounds, you can do what the F-je wants …

“I think he deserved it,” said Cejudo about Makhachev.
