Jurgen Klopp was able to seduce Jadon Sancho to join the ranks of Liverpool before moving his big money to Manchester United. The German tactician did not waste time searching the transfer market in the aftermath of the historic 2019/20 Premier League crown of the Reds and was particularly impressed by Sancho.
The now 25-year-old broke through the Manchester City Academy before signing his first professional contract with Borussia Dortmund in 2017. And given that Klopp saw a wealth of success with, for example, between 2008 and 2015, it is as little surprise that he still kept track of the players and performances of the club.
After scoring 30 goals and the provision of 39 assists in the Bundesliga only during his first three seasons with Dortmund, Sancho noticed itself in connection with a move to Anfield during the summer of 2020, in which Klopp Bild Sport said at the time: “A red sweater would look very good at Jadon Sancho at that time.”
Klopp, however, also hesitated from a transfer that actually flourished and added: “But I don't think such a transfer will take place this summer. He is a very interesting player. If he moved to Liverpool, I would be the most surprised of all.”
It seems that Klopp was correct, where Sancho spent a different season in Germany – collecting eight goals and 12 assists – before he secured a switch of £ 73 million to Rivals the next summer.
However, the silver lining for fans of Liverpool is that Sancho did not adapt to the Premier League in the following years. He only managed nine goals and six assists in the English top flight during his first two and a half seasons at the Red Devils, before he returned to Dortmund in January 2024 on a six -month loan.
After a short return to the northwest, Sancho was then sent on loan to Chelsea in August for the duration of the 2024/25 campaign, where the blues was obliged to pay £ 25 million to permanently take on the wing player after they had reached a finish within the top 14 of the Premier League.
However, it is damn that they are reportedly considering paying the £ 5 million fine to ensure that he does not permanently connect this summer.
Thanks to 40 performances in all competitions this season, Sancho has found only four times the back of the net and gave 10 assists for teammates, while he continues to struggle to adapt to the pace in England.
Klopp separated roads with Liverpool, meanwhile, at the end of last season, with the Dutchman Arne Slot succeeded him.
