Amorim dodges questions over Fernandes and Garnacho ahead of United’s final game

Manchester United -boss Ruben Amorim bypassed questions about the future of Captain Bruno Fernandes and Alejandro Garnacho prior to their last Premier League match against Aston Villa on Sunday, which will close one of the worst seasons of the club in history.

After the expensive 1-0 loss of United for Tottenham Hotspur in Wednesday's Europa League final, Fernandes said that the club might have to sell him, and Saudi team has already established Hilal to offer around 100 million pounds ($ 135.36 million) for the Portugal International.

A dissatisfied Garnacho sounded like he tended to leave and write in a social media post after the loss of Wednesday: “Until the final I played every round that the team helped, and today I play 20 minutes, I don't know.

“The final will have influence (my decision) but the entire season, the situation of the club.”

Amorim spoke the media on Saturday for the first time since the loss that United meant that United did not play European football next season and refused to be drawn to the couple.

“I always speak with my players, but the focus is now on the last game,” said the 40-year-old manager. “We have a plan and we have prepared for both situations, with Champions League and without. Now we have to concentrate on the last game.”

Amorim and his men had hoped to save something positive on Wednesday in a season in which they are 16th in the Premier League away prior to the season finale on Sunday, so the loss in Bilbao was a huge blow.

“It was very difficult and it is still,” he said. “It was hard for us to lose that game. We were the better team, we had more opportunities.”

He summarized the season as “really difficult”.

“I will not try to convince you otherwise, it has been a difficult season, but we had that hope that we could win something and that could help us to complete the season in a different way,” he said. “The way we can get up is to concentrate on the next game to end in a good way.”

“When you start thinking about the future and the team, a new season starts, and we will start with new ambitions and try to do better.”

After the Europa League defeat, Amorim had said he would stop without a conversation about compensation if the club's board and fans wanted him to go.

Amorim left at the beginning of November, while they were at the top of the Portuguese League and won the league title last season to replace Erik ten Hag in United.

When asked if he regretted the united track halfway through the season, he said: “At the moment I am really happy that I arrived six months before we started the new season. We avoided many mistakes that would have happened next season. We avoided a lot of suffering.”

While United has little but proud to play on Sunday, Villa is in the middle of the Champions League qualification qualification with Manchester City, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest.

Villa is sixth, with the top five teams that achieve places in Europe top club competition.
