Ange Postecoglou has promised Tottenham supporters that next season will be better if he celebrated a Europa League triumph.
The filthy goal of Brennan Johnson in Bilbao on Wednesday was enough for Spurs to see Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final.
Spurs has won their first trophy since 2008, while they will also participate in the Champions League of next season.
Whether Postecoglou, who is under pressure, will or will not be to supervise them, can still be seen.
In their last day, Spurs collide with Brighton in 17th place in the Premier League, and the highest they can end up is 14th.
They have lost 21 league games this season, but Postecoglou promised the next campaign will be better if he is in charge.
“I told them and they laughed. I told them and they didn't believe it. And here we are,” Postecoglou told the crowd during Spurs' Trophy Parade.
“I will leave you with this: the whole best television series, season three is better than season two.”
Postecoglou previously invited supervision in the campaign when he insisted that he “always” wins trophies in his second season in a club.
In the meantime, Brighton is starting Sunday's game, knowing that a victory would cause them to finish eighth, which would be enough for them to possibly be eligible for Europe.
A player who may not be involved in a European adventure for the Seagulls is Joao Pedro, who has been associated with a move.
Joao Pedro was also omitted from the Brighton team for Monday's victory on Liverpool, due to a grounds for training.
And the leading scorer of the club in the competition will not appear against Spurs.
Fabian Hurzeler said: “With Joao we had a small problem in training, a type that is not uncommon at all football clubs. We have treated it internally and the issue is closed.
“Joao is an incredible football player, he is a match winner for us and he is a great player and that is why we have invested in him.
“But there are principles, there are values that are non-considerable that count for everyone. I don't make compromises.”
Players to watch
Tottenham – Brennan Johnson
Johnson's attempt against United was as filthy as they get, and indeed, it could have easily fallen as a goal of Luke Shaw.
As it is, the winger has etched his name in Club Folklore and will close the season in a high tone for the Spurs fans.
Brighton – Kaoru Mitoma
Mitoma has scored three goals in his last four Premier League performances and came from the bank in each of those competitions.
He was associated this week with a move to Bayern Munich, and if those reports appear to be where, this could be his last game for Brighton.
Match forecast: Brighton Win
Spurs may have a European trophy under their belt, but they are nine places and 20 points worse off than Brighton.
Brighton came down from 2-0 to win 3-2 in October in the reverse match against Tottenham-Ze have never won successive league matches against Spurs before.
Only once lost 22 games in a campaign, and did this in 1934-35 when they end with the bottom of the top flight.
If they lose this game, they are the first side in the history of top flight that loses 22 games in a 38-game season and are not relegated.
However, Tottenham has only lost their last league match in one of the last 14 seasons (W11 D2) and won the last four with a total score of 16-3. Their only defeat in this run was in Newcastle United in 2015-16 (1-5).
