It was an emotional afternoon in the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, saying goodbye to Real Madrid with Luka Modric and Carlo Ancelotti prior to their respective departure this summer – the midfielder will leave after the club World Cup, while the Italian manager will be on his way with immediate effect.
Real Madrid won 2-0 against Real Sociedad thanks to two Kylian Mbappe goals, but the main story was Modric and Ancelotti and also Lucas Vazquez, who will also leave after the World Cup Club, although his exit has not yet been officially made (but it is being granted).
After the competition, Modric and Ancelotti both gave sincere speeches on the Bernabeu -Mixte, after which there were few dry eyes in the house -and among those in tears, Real Madrid -President Florentino Perez, as was recorded by RMTV cameras.
Modric and Ancelotti both have a close relationship with Perez, so it is no surprise that he was emotional after he had seen them in the Santiago Bernabeu for the last time.
The next destination of Ancelotti is already known, taking over the head coach of the National Team of Brazil at the beginning of June. A deal has been agreed in recent weeks and he remains the management of the Selecao to the World Cup 2026.
In the case of Modric there is much more uncertainty. He will probably not benefit offers this summer, but at this stage no decision was made about his next club – which can be expected, given that he will still be a real Madrid player until the end of the club World Cup. He was associated with a move to the MLS, where he could join Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets.
