Arsenal loaded Emi Martinez to Aston Villa five years ago, but was now able to make a surprise game to bring the Argentina International back to North Londs in the transfer window
It is said of Arsenal that it is considering a sensational movement to bring Emi Martinez back to the emirates – five years after he was shown the door of Mikel Arteta in a brutal manner.
Martinez, 32, has settled as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League since he joined Aston Villa. However, there is speculation that the World Cup-winning Argentina star is planning to find a new challenge at the end of the season after he became emotional after the last home game of the season last week.
Prior to his breakout years in Villa Park, Martinez spent eight years on the books in Arsenal, which borrowed him many times before he had a brief spell before his departure.
However, the sun is now claimed that Arsenal is not only interested in bringing Martinez back, but that the veteran Shot-Stopper would enjoy the chance to finally become the No.1 keeper of Gunners.
The shock development comes in the midst of the club's fears about losing David Raya from the back of another fantastic season for the Spaniard. Raya, 29, is deemed to have been identified by Real Madrid as the successor in the long term of Thibaut Courtois.
There is further interest in the former Brentford keeper at Atletico Madrid also likes to be able to lose their number 1, Jan Oblek, to Saudi -Arabia.
Raya has gone into force since he joined Arsenal in a controversial movement in 2023, initially on loan. That was Raya's progress that Jamie Carragher recently claimed that the decision of Arteta to replace Aaron Ramsdale, while the former Arsenal star was at the height of his powers, was one of the 'best' calls of the Spaniard.
“I chose Alisson as the best keeper in the Premier League this season, but I was very close to choosing David Raya,” Carragher said recently at the overlap.
“Alisson had that performance against PSG and that was one of the best we saw from a keeper, so maybe that remained in my head. But Raya probably had five or six world -class saves this season.
“That was one of the best decisions that Mikel Arteta made, it was brave because Aaron Ramsdale was a bit of a favorite of a fans, but Arsenal would never win anything big with him in the goal.
“She didn't do that with Raya either, but it was a good decision.”
