Joe Rogan labelled Khabib Nurmagomedov ‘something special’ after record-breaking ‘mauling’

Khabib Nurmagomedov showed how dominant could be his wrestling skills on this day in 2013.

Joe Rogan credit the discipline of Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev as the most important factor that led to their remarkable success in the Octagon.

Although Vecht fans were used to seeing hunters from Dagestan who are struggling elite on the table, 'The Eagle' was the first of his kind.

The former lightweight champion, who retired with an unbeaten record of 29-0, was so far before his competition that a slight crack in the armor of Nurmagomedov was enough to shock Rogan and his fellow commentators.

On UFC 160, Nurmagomedov proved that he could completely destroy his opponents by setting a UFC record that still says.

Khabib Nurmagomedov broke the record for most Takedowns in a single fight on UFC 160

On UFC 160 on 25 May 2013, Khabib Nurmagomedov looked to achieve his fourth consecutive victory in the Octagon when he stood opposite Abel Trujillo.

After beating Kamal Shalorus, Gleison Tibau and Thiago Tavares, 'The Eagle' continued his rise by beating the four-fold Naia All-American through a unanimous decision.

The result alone does not tell the full story of this fight, because Nurmagomedov all three rounds completely dominated the ruthless wrestling approach.

When the last bell sounded, the undefeated competitor had broken the UFC record for most Takedowns in one fight with 21.

The record was previously held by Sean Sherk in his victory over Hermes Franca at UFC 73, where he insured 16 Takedowns in five rounds.

Although UFC commentator Mike Goldberg spoke about the wrestling references of Trujillo, Joe Rogan stated that the two men were at totally different levels.

“Yes, but Nurmagomedov is really something special when it comes to wrestling.”

When Rogan kept Nurmagomedov's highlights through his opponent, Rogan gave his last thoughts about a performance that was a sign of the things that would come.

“Nurmagomedov just hit Abel Trujillo every time he caught him. It was the wrestling, the fight Sambo skills of Khabib that really seemed in this fight. Really a great performance of Khabib.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov is not landed in the top 10 for most Takedowns

Despite his record-breaking performance against Abel Trujillo, Khabib Nurmagomedov cannot be found on the top 10 list for Takedowns.

Nurmagomedov fought in the Octagon only 13 times, and he was known to keep opponents low as soon as they hit the ground, which could explain why.

At the top of the list is the current Bantam weight champion of the UFC, Merab Dvalishvili, who will certainly want to add to this song when defending his title on UFC 316 next month.

Dvalishvili is also on the list for the most removals in one fight, after he had produced 13 in his fight with Gustavo Lopes, who sees him in fourth place.
