Atalanta 2-3 Parma: Visitors seal survival after inspired turnaround

The winner of Jacob Ondrejka completed an excellent turning point for Parma, who survived Serie A by taking a dramatic 3-2 victory against Atalanta.

The side of Christian Chivu recovered from 2-0 in the Gest Stadium to claim the win needed to guarantee their top status for a different season.

Atalanta was already assured of a third place and the Champions League football next period and took control through the Daniel Maldini Quickfire brace.

The attacking midfielder hid at home Raoul Bellanova's 32nd minute cross before he knew a second goal within 60 seconds.

Parma was two points free from the bottom three, but may be in danger of jumping through Lecce and Empoli.

Nevertheless, they seemed to be strengthened after the break and they stopped their shortage within three minutes after the restart when Antoine Hainaut hit a loose ball in the box and shot home.

Half-time replacement for Ondrejka's individual effort then dragged the level of the visitors before the Swede completed the turning time in the first minute of the stopping time to hide the home fans in silence.

Data Debrief: Atalanta suffers rare defense progress

Atalanta was defeated after losing a lead of two goals for the first time in Serie A since November 2018 (3-2 against Empoli).

Nevertheless, La Dea's count of 37 awarded goals is their lowest in a Series A season of 20 teams (the previous record of 39 beating 2017-18).

In helping Maldini's second goal, Mateo Retegui took his number of target statements in this Serie A season to 33 (25 goals, eight assists). Only Mohamed Salah (47), Kylian Mbappe and Harry Kane (each 34) improved that among players in the Big Five European competitions.

In the meantime, Parma has found a shortage of two goals to win for the first time in the Serie A since May 2003 (3-2 against Piacenza).
