Darwin Nunez did not succeed in Liverpool in Liverpool in 2022, and was able to follow the Uruguayan
The future of Darwin Nunez in Liverpool has long been brought into the proceedings, and with the summer transfer window almost on us, a move can be ahead. The Uruguayan striker has not succeeded in realizing his £ 85 million reimbursement since he arrived at Anfield from Benfica in 2022, and found the back of the net only 40 times in 143 club performances.
Since Arne Slot has announced all his intentions to build on his most important league -resistant side, Nunez could be shown the door for the right price. He received the medal from a winner for his share in the Premier League campaign of 2024/25.
But Nunez managed to register this period only five goals for the Reds in 30 games – with Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Dominik Szoboszlai and Diogo Jota all turned out to be more productive for the goal.
As a result, major questions have arisen with regard to the future of the 25-year-old in Liverpool under lock, who will undoubtedly look for a proven goal scorer to give Liverpool their best chance of defending their competition title in 2025/26. But what is said of Nunez, and where could he go? Here mirror football breaks it down …
'Biggest mistake' in the history of Liverpool?
Former Liverpool -star Dietmar Hamann recently thought of whether Nunez is the largest transfer error in the illustrious history of Liverpool. Speaking with the goklounge, the 51-year-old that said between 1999 and 2006 for the Reds played: “Is Darwin Nunez the biggest transfer error in the history of Liverpool? Perhaps it is only part of the game.
“If you bring in players, it sometimes works and sometimes not. People probably thought, including myself, if you get someone for £ 85 million, it guarantees your goals, but looking back the money was not well spent.
“Now you have to see how much you earn back. Maybe one of the Saudi clubs is coming and you get your money back. The other is that we should not forget that he was part of a title -winning side. He played his role as much as everyone else.
“He was part of the team. He may not have contributed as much as others, but sometimes it is easier to swallow when you bring in a player as he is still successful when the team is still successful. I think it is a very good sign for the state of Liverpool at the moment to bring in an attacker for a lot of money, but you still scores.”
£ 4 million Saga
Nunez apparently criticized slot in a cryptic social media post at the back of April. The striker was at the beginning of the year and started only one match for Liverpool in the last 10 games of the club in the midst of fierce competition for places in the starting XI.
Nunez wrote to X to talk about his lack of playing time on the eve of Liverpool's 5-1 title-winning victory over Tottenham,
The post was quickly removed, with Nunez uploading a photo of itself and Alexis Mac Allister enjoys a popular South American caffeine drink an hour later. However, answers to the post made it clear that his earlier message was gone but did not forget.
It came after rumors from Portugal suggested that Liverpool Nunez was in the corner to prevent him from paying a transfer episode of £ 4.2 million (€ 5 million) to Benfica. A Bola suggested that the Portuguese club received a bonus every time the attacker hit a milestone in terms of starting matches in the Premier League and Champions League.
The publication claimed that Benfica would receive £ 4.2 million for 10 starts, another £ 4.2 when he hit 35, and another £ 4.2 million when he secured his 60th. Slot, however, was quick to nonsense that he was nunez to the Aren for that reason and reporters told: “Do you always believe what journalists say?
'Not always? Not me either. Sometimes you should, but sometimes it is better not to believe everything that has been written about players. This is completely new to me and I have often said that I work here in a club where it is very nice to work.
“So especially sporting directors are assessed by the players they bring in, it is very important for me to have a great working environment and I have that with Richard [Hughes]. The last, last, last, last, last, last thing he would do, as I expected to work with him for 10 months, is to tell me: “If you play him, it would cost us so much.”
“That, he would never, never, never do it. I don't even know if it's true, yes or no, because we never talk about it. He never interferes with a line -up. It can be true, but if a journalist says we have to … (take it with a pinch of salt).”
A boost for Florian Wirtz
Regardless of whether he will stay in Anfield this summer, Nunez has already given a boost for Florian Wirtz, if Liverpool ultimately signed their tent target. The Reds have been one of the many clubs that are interested this summer in the acquisition of the German playmaker, where Manchester City and Bayern Munich are both also interested in the Bayer Leverkusen star.
City, however, pulled himself out of the race about worry about the finances involved last week, while Wirtz has rejected Vincent Kompany Bayern in recent days.
Liverpool also has a light sweetener in their efforts, by being able to offer the 22-year-old the shirt number of 27. Nunez initially received the number of issued when he arrived in Liverpool three years ago, but decided to switch to nine a year in his term of office.
Wirtz started his career at Leverkusen at number 23, before he exchanged it 27 in his second year. He made the song synonymous with his name before he finally took over as the Bundesliga -Outfit number 10.
And while Mac Allister is currently adorning that number, Liverpool would be able to offer Nostalgic 27 to Wirtz – the shirt that helped him make his name.
Liverpool is also only able to offer the number to Wirtz compared to City and Bayern, where Matheus Nunes and Jack Grealish keep the figures for the city, and Kurnrad Laimer and Leroy Sane who occupy them with the Bavarian.
Every conversation about allocating shirt numbers will currently come a touch, but it is assumed that Leverkusen Wirtz has beaten a price tag of more than £ 120 million this summer, and the time will learn whether Liverpool can get a deal over the line.
Landing spots for Nunez
If Liverpool decides to sell Nunez this summer, then there are a number of clubs with which the striker is connected outside the Premier League. It was reported that Saudi Pro League-Outfit, Al-Nassr, NUNEZ was monitored in January, reportedly prepared to pay no less than £ 70 million for the player.
In the meantime, athletics was recently claimed that Nunez was being tried by Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. Nunez has already proven under the Spanish sun and spent a year with Almeria in 2019, where he had collected 16 goals in 32 performances.
Cadena SER also claims that Atletico has had conversations with Nunez, who has reportedly already shared enthusiasm with regard to member of the La Liga side. It is said that everything has been agreed from the perspective of the attacker, but a deal with Liverpool still has to flourish.
Elsewhere it is said that Napoli is looking for Nunez, as well as Al-Hilal. With three years about his contract on Anfield, the time will tell what the next one is for the rush.
