Former Arsenal and Real Sociedad striker Carlos Vela retired from professional football after a 19-year career, said 36-year-old Tuesday.
Vela graduated from the youth arrangement of Arsenal and made his senior debut during a loan saying on the Spanish side Salamanca. He made 29 Premier League performances for Arsenal before he had a seven-year-old Stint at Liga Club Sociedad.
At ease as an attacker, attacking midfielder or wide, Vela also made 72 performances for Mexico and won the Concacaf Gold Cup twice.
“During my career I experienced a number of very special moments, but the time has come to officially retire from professional football,” he wrote on Instagram.
“It was an honor and a privilege to share my career with you all.”
After moving to Los Angeles FC in 2018, Vela helped win the Major League Soccer Side the MLS Cup and the US Open Cup.
He scored 34 goals during the MLS season 2019, a competition record, and is the all time leader in goals, assists and performances for the club.
“He has been the heartbeat, the captain and face of Lafc,” Clubco President and general manager John Thorrington said in a statement.
