A car that slowly began to take on by pedestrians, finally plowed in – and a parade turned into a panic.
This was a frightening and chaotic incident. This is what Sky's Data and Forensics team was able to reconstruct: exactly what happened and when.
This is what everyone filled the streets to see – the Liverpool – teamus on his victory parade.
It started at 2.30 pm on the holiday Monday – here is the route that the procession took.
And that meant closures. Here are all roads that were closed to traffic, or should have been.
Prior to the Parade, the Liverpool city council had strongly advised people not to ride – especially in the city center – and asked fans to walk instead.
This is the first time we see the car involved. It slowly goes west along Dale Street.
The time stamp on these images does not seem to have been corrected – reading 16.58 hours – probably it appears that it was filmed at 5.58 pm, adjustment for the hours in the summer.
We can see the car here again in the same street before the worst happens.
Images show that someone is closing a door on the right, but it is unclear whether he was a passenger.
The driver returns and touches a fan nearby. The crowd reacts angry – kicking and hitting the vehicle.
Blocked at the front by a stopped car, the human carrier then returns to a man who attacks the rear window at speed.
The crowd then throws objects at the car while it runs west past Dale Street.
In the meantime, the man returned to earlier chases – hitting the rear window with a folding chair.
Dale Street changes to Water Street – and less than 100 meters later, at the intersection with Rumford Street, the police say that a road block was in place.
But this was lifted for an ambulance and the car could follow behind it.
After this, most of the damage was done.
The car comes to a halt on Water Street, with an emergency vehicle right behind. The crowd attacks the car while the police are trying to intervene.
It then accelerates and touches pedestrians.
The car then swings straight into a crowd, before he left again and comes to a halt.
If we refer to different videos to cards of the street, we can see that the car covers 40 m (131ft) in nine seconds – that means an average speed of 10 MPH – fast enough to make critical injuries.
It ended here – with people who saw trapped under the wheels.
Officers quickly surrounded the car while witnesses tried to stop the driver, who was eventually held by the police.
Afterwards, bystanders were seen in shock on the road.
It is only a short stretch of road. But this was a holiday and a great occasion. About a million people came to look at the parade – there were close bustle everywhere.
The police said the emergency services within “a matter of seconds” responded.
But questions will now concentrate on how the suspect was able to drive at least two streets with people – to get in touch with them and cause victims – without being stopped.
