Manchester United is ready to pay £ 30 million for Liam Delap from Ipswich Town, but the Red Devils have been warned about signing the former Star of Manchester City Academy
Manchester United has been told to give up their pursuit of Liam Delap and instead Victor Osimhen. Delap, 22, has emerged as the number 1 priority of United in their search to sign a striker this summer.
The English Youth International has a release clause of £ 30 million in his contract with Ipswich Town, which has been relegated from the Premier League this season. Delap still managed to score 12 goals for the Tractor Boys, so that he stimulated his shares after three promising spells in the championship on loan from Manchester City.
But there are doubts about the suitability of Delap for United. Baas Ruben Amorim already has two young strikers in his team – Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund – neither of them have been productive since they came to the Red Devils one and two years ago. It is feared that adding another relatively inexperienced striker could aggravate the problems that Amorim is already confronted with.
That is why former United -midfielder Darren Gibson believes that 'established striker' Osimhen would be a better option. “To be honest, I don't think Liam Delap is an upgrade on Zirkzee or Hojlund,” Gibson told Aceodds.com. “They are both so young and they have arrived in a difficult time.
“Normally, young strikers would have a more experienced striker to learn from them and bounce off. If United Harry Kane had bought two summers ago, I think Hojlund or Zirkzee would learn different players from him.
“I don't want to remove anything from Delap, but I don't think he's an upgrade. Rio [Ferdinand] Recently spoke about the pressure at United and how players do not realize how difficult it is.
“At the moment, Delap is in Ipswich and there is not much pressure on him. He plays with freedom, but it is different at United. They need an established striker.
“Victor Osimhen would be my best target. He scores goals and he is more experienced. He can teach the younger boys.”

Osimhen will be available this summer after a goal-loaded loan with Galatasaray. The 26-year-old had a fight with parent club Napoli after firing them on the Serie A title in 2023.
In Turkey, Osimhen has so far scored 36 goals in 40 games. Gala has already won a competition and cup double this period, and they will be confronted with Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday to extend their 11-point gap to second place Fenerbahce.
The future of Osimhen is an important talk point in Istanbul, with Premier League-rival Chelsea, Saudi-Arabic champions al-Hilal and Italian giants Juventus connected alongside United. The Napoli star remained tight on its future and last tackled the subject in February.
“Don't know [about the future]To be honest, “Osimhen admitted.” A few months ago, nobody ever thought I would come to Galatasaray, despite how big a club they are.
“I live for the time being. [As] For what will happen in the summer, I don't know, but I want everyone to understand something: I really love this club. I love the fans, I love everyone who is associated with this club, from the president to the coaching staff. “
