Real Madrid icon Luka Modric considering shock Rangers move

Davide Ancelotti seems to close a step to Rangers, where he would become a manager. And Luka Modric was able to join him in Glasgow, after his Real Madrid departure later this summer.

Ancelotti JR left Real Madrid earlier this week alongside Father Carlo, who took over the new head coach of the Brazilian national team. The 35-year-old will be with his father for the two world cup qualifications of the Selecao in June, after which he could walk in the job of his first manager.

And that could be at Rangers, with the BBC (via MD), who reported that Ancelotti had more conversations with the SPFL Premiership side last week.

At this stage, Rangers are favorites to appoint Ancelotti as their next head coach. And if they do that, there is a chance that Modric joins Real Madrid's former assistant manager in Scotland. According to the report, the International in Croatia would consider a strong switch to Ibrox.

Modric will be happy to play at a good level in the run-up to the World Cup of next summer in North America, where he hopes to be with Croatia. And playing at Rangers, who reached the quarterfinals of the 2024-25 Europa League, would allow him to do that more than a switch to the MLS or Saudi Arabia, especially because his preference is in Europe.

It will be very interesting to see where Modric will end up next season. He will play his last few games for Real Madrid during this summer's World Cup, and it is likely that he will decide his next club after the tournament. If it is Rangers that he becomes a member of, it would be a major coup for the Scottish Club, which have struggled in his own country in recent years.
