Atletico Madrid is expected to be working on the transfer this summer, and there are opportunities for important departure of players – especially because funds have to be collected for the reported signing sessions by Alex Baena and Cristian Romero. But among those who will not leave the Riyadhair Metropolitano, Julian Alvarez is.
Alvarez is in the back of a very impressive first season in Atleti. The former striker of Manchester City gained 29 goals in all competitions, with 17 of those in La Liga. He had a slow start in the Spanish capital, but in recent months he has settled as one of La Liga's best number nines.
And that is why it may not be a surprise that clubs have been interested this summer to sign Alvarez. In recent days, Arsenal has been strongly connected to him and Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that clubs in the Premier League want to sign the Argentina International.
But despite this, Athleti does not have the desire to have Alvarez leave the club this summer. It must be reminded that he had been signed for € 95 million in 2024, so everyone who wants to do business for 12 months should pay more considerably than to take Los Colchoneros to the negotiating table.
It makes perfect sense for Athleti to take on a hard posture on Alvarez. He was excellent last season, and if they would set up a good challenge of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the 2025-26 campaign, they have to look at him for goals.
There is probably more likely that Alvarez will continue from Atleti in 2026, at what point Barcelona could enter the race because they want to sign a successor to Robert Lewandowski. If they do that, those clubs in the Premier League will certainly be at a disadvantage.
