Joe Cole heaps praise on ‘genius’ Palmer after inspiring Blues’ comeback v Betis

Former Chelsea wing player Joe Cole described Cole Palmer as an 'absolute genius' after he helped win the Premier League side to win the Europa Conference League.

Palmer set up a virtuoso display in the second half to help the blues to destroy a 1-0 half-time shortage against Real Betis to have 4-1 winners.

The 23-year-old made two sublime assists to help his party create history by becoming the first club, all three of them won the great UEFA trophies.

Cole said on TNT sports: “Cole Palmer, absolutely genius. We do not produce these players.

“They don't fall from trees. He took the game tonight at the neck of the neck and let it happen.

“There are not many players in world football who can do what he does.”

The third level tournament may not be the level where Chelsea has been played in the past, but Cole, which was a second place in 2008, says it will be a springboard.

“Chelsea is a huge club at this level,” he added. 'And what I would say, for these young players and this team to win a trophy, it will take them to the next level.

“But that's not about that tonight. It is about a group of young football players, young coaches, meet and achieve something.

“Don't look down here.”
