In traditional circumstances, this is the time of the year in which multiple of football players would play on the well -necessary holidays with others who are preparing for a final day of day with their national teams in the last international window of the season.
But this year is different, for 32 club teams, a new tournament is central with the first exer extended FIFA Club World Cup that starts in Miami on June 14.
Some of the biggest names in club football (Real Madrid, PSG, Boca Juniors, Al Hilal, Bayern Munich, Chelsea …) from all over the world will come together on the United States with the last -born July 13 in New Jersey.
Real Madrid -Priority
Real Madrid has not made much secret that they intend to take the tournament seriously, very seriously.
After a disappointing season and with a new head coach (Xabi Alonso) at the helm, the thirst for a title for 'Los Blancos' has increased.
It is in the DNA of the Real Madrid fan: they have to see a Real Madrid team that wins and keeps winning, is the message of the highest level of the club, suggesting that the club World Cup is the “most important” tournament of the season.
Apart from the prize money offered, Real Madrid wants to create the prestige of debut winners of the new competition, in the same way the Bernabeu side won the first European cup (1956) and the inaugural Intercontinental Cup (1960).
Cash Bonanza
Apart from the pride in winning the FIFA competition, the club has approved “Champions Champions bonuses”: € 1 million gross for each player when they win the tournament. The same amount that is awarded for a victory of the Champions League with the club that places the club World Cup is at the same level.
Winning the Club World Cup means a huge payment day for the victors with FIFA that confirms that this tournament will have the biggest prize pool ever for a football competition with a group phase and knock -out phase (consisting of seven games).
Prices per round
The payouts are public and simple: every victory in the group stage will yield 2 million dollars (if there is a draw, this money will be shared: a million for each team). Winning in the round of 16 will yield $ 7.5 million and in the quarterfinals, $ 13.125 billion. From now on the real deal: semi -finals are 21 million and the last, 40 million.
Prices for the tournament
*€ 33.5 million must be added to this for participation.
In total around € 140 million
Wining all three group stage matches and lifting the trophy would mean a total recording of approximately € 140 million.
To put this in perspective, winning the Champions League (and winning all group phase games, in a very optimistic scenario) means a home of around € 100 million. The Club World Cup offers more. And that is only in terms of the 'basic prices' with advertisements and TV rights and other spider -offs that may add more money to the bottom line.
