Real Madrid is now in conversation with Liverpool about an early release for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Real, who wants the defender to play for them at the club World Cup that starts on June 15, has to pay Liverpool if they want to sign him before his contract ends on 30 June.
Liverpool is not obliged to release Alexander-Arnold before the end of June and Real will not be able to get the player early by easy to offer him from the wage account of the Reds in June.
The Spanish side made the first contact with Liverpool about an early release within a few hours after Alexander-Arnold announced earlier this month that he would leave.
Real was told that a fee must be paid and they have now returned to the negotiating table.

“If you come in the last phases of the World Cup and even win, you will probably make an extra £ 100 million extra. And in this era of Financial Fair Play, PSR, that is really important.

“The other point to make is, even if he is not released on time to play in the early stages of the World Cup club, because Real Madrid has three group matches between June 18 and June 27, he would participate in mid-tournament to play in the knockout phases.
“FIFA has been very, very smart, they have introduced this registration period of the Middle Tournament. So during the tournament, after the group stage, you can add players to your team.
“And by that time, Alexander-Arnold would be a free agent on the 30th so that they can register and then call FIFA and say: can you also add it to our squadron list for the club World Cup?”
