City chairman promises to discuss alleged breaches once verdict has been reached

The chairman of Manchester City, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, said that his club is “patient” while waiting for the judgment for accusing alleged infringements of the financial rules of Premier League.

City was referred to an independent committee in February 2023 on the charges that the club strongly denies.

The case was heard between September and December last year, but no decision has been announced yet.

City can be confronted with a point deduction, a heavy fine or even relegation of the Premier League if they are found guilty.

“Well, I suppose that all I can say is that we still have no statement,” said Khaldoon this week.

“As soon as there is a statement, I can talk about it. Until then we just have to be patient, and it will come, and we will talk about it, I promise you as soon as we have the statement.”

The investigation, which resulted in more than 100 charges against City, started in 2018.

City was accused of not reporting accurate financial information for nine seasons that extend from 2009-10 to 2017-18, as well as not providing full details of the wages of former manager Roberto Mancini between 2009-10 and 2012-13.

They are also charged with not providing full details of reward in contracts with players between 2010-11 and 2015-16, and with the non-collaboration with the study for a period from 2018 to 2023.

The club said when the charges were laid that they welcomed a committee “to consider the extensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists to support our position”.

City won the Champions League at the end of the season that the charges were laid, so that she secured a place in the FIFAs extended 32-team Club World Cup that starts next month.

World Players' Union FIFPRO has criticized the planning of the competition in the midst of player welfare and, together with the European domestic competition organization, has submitted legal complaints against FIFA about a lack of consultation on the international competition calendar.

Nevertheless, Khaldoon insists that the club takes the competition seriously and treats it as the official start of next season instead of an expansion of the current one.

“This is a very, very serious competition. In the summer the whole world will keep an eye on this,” he said.

“A large number of the top teams in the world will participate in this tournament and I can assure you, we will give it our best chance.”
