Man United confirm first-team staff member leaves Ruben Amorim’s backroom team – as coach targets ‘new challenge

A member of the back room staff of Manchester United has left his role at Old Trafford, has announced the club.

Swede Andreas Georgson, who came to the club less than 12 months ago, will no longer serve as the first team coach of United.

It has been a difficult season in Old Trafford, United finished 15th in the Premier League and not securing a trophy when losing the recent Europa League final at Tottenham.

The club has just finished a tour after the season with a loss for the Asean All-Stars and a victory over Hong Kong.

When Georgson arrived in United, while Erik ten Hag was in charge, his most important task was a set piece coach.

However, when Ruben Amorim took over in November, the responsibility for dead ball situations were removed from Georgson.

He arrived in Old Trafford from the Norwegian side Lillestrom, where he was head coach.

Georgson has also had Stints with Southampton, Arsenal, Brentford and Malmo.

Georgson said: 'It has been a fantastic experience that served as the first team coach at Manchester United, and I will always be proud of my association with such a great football club.

'This period of my career has now ended, while I am leaving to find a new challenge elsewhere.

'While I am enthusiastic about the opportunities, I am sad to leave so many wonderful colleagues and friends at Carrington, who really make Manchester United special.

“Even during such a difficult season, the professionalism and dedication of the players and the staff never staggered, and I know that there will be better times.”

Jason Wilcox from United, Jason Wilcox, said: 'Andreas was a valued member of the coaching of our men in the first team last year and we are grateful for his important contribution.

“He leaves with our thanks and best wishes for the next phase of his career.”
