Simone Inzaghi threatens to overshadow Champions League final with Inter Milan refusal

Inter Milan is facing Paris Saint -Germain in Munich on Saturday evening with the largest club prize of European football on the line -but the future of Nerazzuri -Baas Simone Inzaghi is far from certain and he has added more fuel to the fire

Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has refused to comment on speculation that he is on his way to the club, regardless of what happens in the final of the Champions League. Inzaghi confirmed that next week he will meet club bosses to discuss what the future entails or the Italians Paris Saint Germain or not.

Inter goes to their second Champions League final in three seasons, after they had lost from Manchester City in 2023, and with their players who are still trying to overcome the heartache to see their attempt to keep the Serie A title, Napoli ended on the last day last weekend.

But there are also rumors in Italy that Inzaghi is offered a fortune to leave the Nerazzurri to become a member of the Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal.

Inzaghi said: “As far as the future is concerned, we will see after this final of the Champions League. We will chat in a very relaxed way next week.

“We left last week's disappointment. We talked about what happened and we know that we could not have done it anymore.

“I don't want the players to be obsessed with what is for them. We must be focused and determined in the right degree.

“Self -confidence, hard running, determination, cool heads. I could use a whole series of adjectives to describe what I am looking for – because to win such a match absolutely everything needs everything.”

Inter finished fourth in the group stage after winning six and drawing one of their eight games. After they have passed Feyenoord in the last 16, they eliminated Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals with 4-3 aggregated-included a 2-1 win in the Allianz Arena.

In the semi-final, a classic 3-3 draw in Barcelona was overshadowed in the second stage when defender Francesco Acerbi scored an equalizer in the third minute of injury time before Davide Frattesi took an extra-time winner to achieve an amazing 7-6 aggregate victory.

Inzaghi said: “We are very excited to be in the Champions League final, but we deserve it to be here completely – and Paris St Germain too. They are the best team in the world when it comes to possession, but we are also one of the best on that score.

“Two years ago we were underdogs and lost the game, although I felt our performance against a team that was the best in the world at the time, earned more.

“I don't know what I will say to the players before they go out, but I am sure my heart will tell me.

“I dreamed of games like this one when I was a child. Reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League was the best I did as a player, but I went to two finals as a coach and I know we are at a stage where you are the only one or you win or lose.”
