Arsenal is on the market for a goal scorer this summer and sports director Andrea Berta has had conversations with RB Leipzig Chief Marcel Schafer about a deal for Benjamin Sesko
Arsenal reportedly opened conversations with RB Leipzig during a £ 75 million deal to sign Benjamin Sesko, whereby Mikel Arteta wants to strengthen his attack this summer. A new striker is at the top of his shopping list, where the Gunners miss a productive goal scorer.
Kai Havertz was the top scorer of Arsenal in the Premier League last season with nine strikes. Only Manchester United and Southampton had a top scorer who had fewer goals, while Sesko scored 13 times in the Bundesliga for Leipzig.
According to a report from The Daily Mail, Arsenal's new sports director Andrea Berta had conversations with Leipzig Chief Marcel Schafer about Sesko. It is claimed that Leipzig has an initial £ 75 million compensation for the 21-year-old will.
And Arteta recently claimed that the club could break this summer record, with the £ 100 million from Declan Rice of West Ham in 2023 Arsenal's current record recording
“The budget is like when you have your wedding: you plant your wedding with your wife and you give her a budget and it's never less, it's always more,” said Arteta.
“When you build a house, it is always more. Normally this happens. You prepare for different scenarios. Then unfortunate things happen. There are so many variables that can happen, but there is a budget.
“There is always an idea of what we can do, what we can improve, what the priorities will be and let's see if we can do it. It is always a 'we', I think it is always a decision that we all have to come together.
“Then in certain aspects, in certain aspects, the club, the financial aspects, whether it is the strategy or this or that, they have said a greater than me because I don't want to have an opinion about it. I would probably have a reference, but not a strong opinion.
“If it is more technical or tactical aspects of how I think that player will now arise and will be related to the group of players we have and where I now see them develop and what we want to do with another player afterwards, it is of course more between the sports director, in this case Andrea, myself and all scouting department.”
It is claimed that Arsenal also had conversations with Sporting Lisbon about Viktor Gyokeres, with the 26-year-old another striker who has attracted the attention of different clubs throughout Europe. Gyokees achieved 39 goals last season in 33 League Portugal matches when Sporting won the competition.
Berta is said to be a big fan of Gyokees, but it is also said that Chelsea and Juventus are interested in the former Coventry star.
