Under Unai Emery, Aston Villa has regularly looked at the La Liga market, and they are expected to do this again this summer. But for one of their goals they will be confronted with considerable competition.
The will of Alex Moreno and Andres Garcia have arrived during Emery's office in Villa Park, and another full-back can also be set to get to the Premier League side this summer: Oscar Mingueza.
Sources have told football España that Mingueza remains on the radar of a number of clubs throughout Europe. Aston Villa, RB Leipzig and AS Roma take concrete steps to secure his signature, while Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United are considered alternative options.
Aston Villa, who considered a movement for the Celta Vigo defender in January, focuses on Mingueza to strengthen the right-wing position in their team, which is considered weak. In the meantime, RB Leipzig and AS Roma appreciate the versatile capacity of the defender to play in both full-back position. In the case of Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, they have evaluated Mingueza as a potential signing. However, it is believed that they are considering alternative options at this stage.
Mingueza has a release clause of € 20 million in its Celta contract, and that figure will be tempting for those clubs that are interested in the Spain International. The Galicians – who protected the qualification of the Europa League last weekend – are currently trying to match a new deal with their player, with his existing deal that expires in 2026.
Celta will be desperate to keep Mingueza, but on the other hand, Barcelona will be desperate on a sale. The La Liga champions have a 50% clause for the defender as part of the deal in which he went to Balaidos three years ago, so they would deliver € 10 million in the case of a summer sale.
