Marquinhos revels in PSG’s maiden Champions League triumph: It’s the best day of my life

Marquinhos said that the very first Champions League victory of Paris Saint-Germain marked the best day of his life after their record-breaking victory.

PSG wiped Inter 5-0 aside in a dominant version and became the first side to win a European Cup/Champions League with a margin of five goals.

Desire Doue received a brace and set up the opener of Achraf Hakimi before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu called off their impressive version.

After PSG also won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, PSG became the ninth different European side that won the Treble, and the first French side to do this.

Their first Champions League triumph entered the competition in their 168th game, most games played by one side before they won their first title.

And Marquinhos, who was part of the PSG side that lost the final to Bayern Munich in 2020, was pleased to leave the pain behind while he lifted the trophy.

“It is a mixture of joy, of all the emotions we have spent together,” Marquinhos told M6. “I suffered, but I grew up with this team.

“I think of all the players who have come and went and did not succeed.

“My idol, Thiago [Silva]Lucas [Moura]Zlatan [Ibrahimovic]” [Edinson] Cavani, [Angel] Di Maria. So many players who came here and gone who deserved it and did not succeed.

“We arrive and we bring it home. I think of all the supporters who have been to us, who in the Parc and the people around the world. I love you, enjoy it and we will enjoy it.

“It's the best day of my life. My family was with me and experienced it with me. It was a big goal. When we arrived, nobody believed that we could go that far.

“It is twelve years of difficulty and suffering. I appreciate this title too much, it is with us, and we bring it home. I am so happy.”

Doue stole the show for PSG and became the first player involved in three goals in a Champions League final (two goals, one assist).

His replacement, Bradley Barcola, also noted an assist, setting up Mayulu's late goal, and he says it is a dream for the club to finally get the trophy.

“The club was looking for her for a long time and this year we managed to get her,” Barcola told Canal+.

“I still can't believe it. It is a dream to win the Champions League with such a big club.”
