Sean O’Malley’s coach forced UFC’s greatest ever fighter to tap out in new UFC 316 gym footage

Sean O'Malley's trainer Tim Welch showed his Jiu-Jitsu expertise in a new YouTube video where he tapped one of the greatest of the UFC.

Welch is one of the most respected coaches in the game and welcomed the legendary former UFC flight weight champion Demetrious Johnson in his Red Hawk Academy in the last few days.

All hands are on the deck for the upcoming UFC 316 Main Event from O'Malley next week against Merab Dvalishvili. Welch, however, managed to get a solid session with Johnson that was recorded for their YouTube channels.

During a recent visit to Arizona, Demetrious Johnson spent some time on Tim Welch's Red Hawk Academy, where he became involved in the camp of Sean O'Malley for UFC 316. He is one of the many legends that has been to train with the former Bantamweight camps.

The couple participated in a Gi Jiu-Jitsu session, which explained Welch point by point during a long video on his YouTube channel. And at one point the former Bellator -hunter locked up a brilliant entry that reluctantly tapped 'Mighty Mouse'.

“Once you have received your back and have received the double collars, it is very strong,” Welch said in an overub of the images. “You are going to be in very good condition.”

Fans have noted in the commentary part that the enormous weight benefit of Welch may have played a factor in relation to career-fly weight Johnson. Welch last tipped the scales on 195 pounds for a wrestling match in 2020 that is his last known weighing and was during the competition.

In the meantime, Johnson already made the 135 pound limit for bantamweight in 2023, and is probably not much larger considering his smaller framework.

After Welch discussed his experience with Johnson, he teased a short piece of images of him and O'Malley who grabbed the cage. That video is of course limited, but it showed the enormous advantage that the former Bantam weight champion has about fighters around his weight.

Welch noted in his comment that Johnson did about four or five rounds with O'Malley before he stepped on the pads. 'Suga' is deep in the camp at this stage, with his fight against Dvalishvili on 7 June in Newark.

Johnson retired last year after ending his career on top of one championship, but many think he would still have to compete in view of the level where he is currently training in the gym. However, he explained in the video “It doesn't happen.”
