Simone Inzaghi speaks out on future after embarrassing UCL final loss

Simone Inzaghi has spoken about his future after Inter Milan was defeated 5-0 in the Champions League final by Paris Saint-Germain, with Al-Hilal interested in the Italian

Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi has doubted his future in the club after they had been beaten 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final. A brace of Desire Doue and Strikes by Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Senny Mayulu earned PSG a dominant victory in Munich.

It is the second time in two years that Inzaghi has led to the final, with his side 1-0 loses to Manchester City in the 2023 edition, and the Italian was asked about his future after the last defeat against PSG.

Inzaghi was a contraction at Inter until 2026, but Al-Hilal is said to have submitted a huge offer in an attempt to seduce him into Saudi Arabia. And when asked if he will still be in charge when Inter will start their club World Cup campaign on 17 June, Inzaghi said: “I don't know how to answer that question.

“I came here to speak as a sign of respect and courtesy after this defeat that was very painful. Teams come stronger from the defeats, that may seem like a platitude, but it is true and we did that through the Scudetto in the past.

“There is disappointment tonight, but we have to keep our head high, knowing that we were confronted with a team that deserved the victory.”

When he was pushed further for his future, Inzaghi added: “There is now too much disappointment to talk about the future, we have had 58 games to come here since July 13 and talking about the future does not feel good now.”

Thinking about the game as a whole, Intaghi admitted that his party “had admitted goals that we normally do not allow”. He said to reporters: “I am proud of these guys for what they have achieved on this trip.

“Tonight, PSG earned it to win the Champions League – they were better than we did. We approached the game badly, were stretched and made their victory easier. This is a difficult loss for us.

“Credit to our opponents, but we didn't play a great final. Having said that, I thank the players for this season and I am proud of being their coach. It is disappointing, but it didn't know what we did.

“We had to do better tonight – I first and foremost – but the boys have been incredible this season. This group deserves praise. In the coming days there will be a meeting with the club and we will talk.

“Technically, we did not play as we know we could do it. They won second balls, and after we had admitted the first goal, we were stretched, which led to this defeat. Tonight we admitted goals that we normally do not allow.”
