Liverpool is working hard to try to get a club record deal for Florian Wirtz about the line, but Arne Slot has not prevented it from achieving another potential transfer
Arne Slot recently traveled to a planned transfer meeting with Rayan Cherki, despite an important progress in Liverpool's pursuit that the Bayer Leverkusen attacked midfielder Florian Wirtz.
The Reds are locked up in conversations with the Bundesliga-outfit about a deal for the popular Germany star. It is assumed that Liverpool will have to break their transfer record to Land Wirtz, whereby Leverkusen appreciates the 22-year-old on a monstrous £ 126 million.
Last week it turned out that Leverkusen have rejected both Liverpool bids so far, with an agreement that still has to be reached.
Closing a deal for Wirtz clearly remains the priority of Liverpool, especially now that they essentially have a free run with the player after Bayern Munich had withdrawn from the race but that Slot did not prevent Cherki to meet for face-to-face conversations.
As revealed for the first time due to athletics, the Lyon -who were attacking midfielder last week, held conversations with Slot in France after the Dutchman left his holiday briefly.
Van Cherki, 21, is generally expected to become a member of Manchester City, but is also on the Liverpool radar. And the club and end decided to continue with that meeting – which was planned before striving for Wirtz accelerated – to cover all bases in the event of unexpected developments in negotiations with Leverkusen.
The report adds that City are favorites to sign Cherki after they have stuck their own plans to go after Wirtz, who promotes a move to Anfield after he is in conversations.
Claims that Cherki has a release clause of € 22.5 million (£ 19 million) in his contract is incorrect, adds the report, whereby Lyon is determined to obtain much more substantial compensation, despite the fact that the player's deal will expire the following summer.
With conversations about a deal for continuing Wirtz, there is optimism that an agreement will be reached despite the current stalemate. It has been speculated that a player could move in the opposite direction with Harvey Elliott and Jarrel Quansah admired by Leverkusen.
Liverpool is likely to follow a deal for the left back of Bournemouth, Milos Kerkez, while Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt originated as a striker target.
However, L'Equipe has now claimed that Chelsea is 'clear' in their pursuit of the £ 60 million rated France Under-21-star, with the blues who wants to follow their conquest of Liam Delap from Ipswich Town with the former PSG-Starschet.
