Federico Chiesa has refused to exclude a return to Juventus, although his primary ambition is to return to his best with Liverpool next season.
Chiesa entered Liverpool for a reported £ 10 million (€ 12 million) plus add-on last August, after he had told the then Juventus coach Thiago Motta that he was not part of his plans for the first team.
The attacker was part of the Liverpool team that won the Premier League for the second time, although he only made his first start in the competition the last day.
He made only six league matches of a total of 104 minutes all campaign, which led to suggestions he could return to Italy before 2025-26.
In an interview with La Gazzetta Dello Sport, the winner of the Euro 2020 conversations revealed during his future in the coming weeks, but said he was not worried about his lack of minutes last season.
“It will be a problem to tackle in the summer. I, my agent and my family have a very good relationship with Liverpool,” said Chiesa.
“The goal is to be ready for the preseason, then we will look for the best solution for everyone. I have done a season in the Premier League without playing a lot, but that's fine.
“Much was dependent on the preparation and the fact that I had to settle. I have all the references to return to my past.”
Asked if he regretted that leaving Juventus after Motta had not seen a single season at the helm, Chiesa said: “No, why should I?
“I was never offered a contract renewal. There had been contacts to talk about it after the euro, but then nobody heard from them.
“When I returned after the holidays, I immediately spoke with Thiago Motta, who told me loudly and clearly:” You are not part of the project, look for a team. “
“Motta didn't want me anymore. I am a professional, I accepted and kept training to look for another team.
“It was a big regret because I care a lot about Juventus and I thought I could still give them a lot.
“I was with Juventus for four years and I always behaved well, but it was their choice. Return one day? Never say.”
Chiesa registered 21 goals and 17 assists in 98 Serie A performances for Juventus, after he had scored 26 and had helped 17 for Fiorentina before he came to the Turin Giants – initially on loan – in 2020.
With Italy who wants to qualify for the World Cup 2026 after missing the last two editions of the global showpiece, Chiesa knows that he needs a strong season in 2025-26.
“I hope it's my season. My dream is to participate in the World Cup. I played and won a European championship, but the World Cup would be the top,” he added.
