Modric lined up for dream transfer to EU giants three months before turning 40

Luka Modric only has a few performances like a Real Madrid player, but the Croatian midfielder may stand in line for a mega switch to expand his career

AC Milan is interested in signing Luka Modric as soon as he finally leaves Real Madrid. The experienced midfielder has already announced that he will leave the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the current season.

Modric participates in this summer's World Cup as a real player before he says goodbye to the club. Although it is 39, it seems that the Ballon d'Or winner 2018 is very interested in its services.

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, Italian giant AC Milan are interested in signing Modric for a free transfer. He would apparently also be open to a movement.

Milan is apparently Modric's Dream Club since he was a child, while he also wants to sign for a 'top level' club in an attempt to earn a place in his country's team for next summer's world cup. It is also added that economic factors such as wages would be the list of his priorities.

Modric made 57 performances for Real Madrid during his most recent season, scored four times and offered another seven assists. Away from AC Milan, Modric is also linked to a move to MLS.

He was also tipped by Fernando Morientes to move to Swansea City from the championship, of which Modric is now co-owner. Modric announced his exit from Real Madrid with an emotional statement on social media.

He wrote: “Dear fans of Real Madrid: The time has come. The time I never wanted to come, but that is football, and in life everything has a start and an end … On Saturday I play my last game in the Santiago Bernabéu.

“I arrived in 2012 hoping to wear the shirt of the best team in the world and the ambition to do great things, but I could not imagine what was coming. Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a football player and as a person. I am proud to be part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history.

“I want to sincerely thank the club, especially President Florentino Pérez, my teammates, coaches and everyone who helped me during this time. In these years I have experienced incredible moments, comebacks that seemed impossible, finals, parties and magic nights in the Bernabéu …

“We won everything and I have been very happy. Very happy. But beyond the titles and victories, I wear the affection of all Real Madrid fans in my heart.

“I really don't know how to explain the special connection that I have with you all, and how supported, respected and loved I have felt and keep feeling. I will never forget every ovation and all the gestures of affection you have shown me.

“I leave with a full heart. Full of pride, gratitude and indelible memories. And although after the club World Cup I will no longer wear this shirt on the field, I will always be a fan of Real Madrid. We will meet again. Real Madrid will always be my home. Hala Madrid and nothing else. Luka Modric.”
