Chelsea ‘target Serie A star goalkeeper to be their new No 1’

Chelsea reportedly approached AC Milan to inquire about signing goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The current contract of the 29-year-old in San Siro will expire in 2026, and he has to close another deal to new conditions to stay in Italy.

It was previously suggested that Chelsea was not on the market for a new keeper, despite both Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen who struggled between the sticks.

With the Western side, however, now aware of the contracting situation of Maignan in the Rossoneri, they now have conversations to take him to Stamford Bridge, according to Fabrizio Romano.

They want to do early business, where FIFA introduced a transfer window of 1-10 June for the World Cup Club and have already been signed after the signing of the Liam Delap of Ipswich Town.

Maignan has been on the Radar of Chelsea for a while while looking for the perfect shot topper, and now they have decided to pursue the French international.

It is believed that there will be a decision about the future of Maignan, it is all from the question of whether Milan wants to run the risk that he will leave for a free transfer next summer or allows him to leave a fee this year.

The Frenchman arrived at Milan from Lille in 2021 and has been a consistent performer for the Italian giants for the past four seasons.

Although the club had a bad campaign 2024-25, in which they ended a low eighth in the Serie A, Maginan still managed to keep 13 clean sheets.

With Champions League offered, he can be tempted to switch the English capital and lead what is already a stacked group of keepers.

With Sanchez and Jorgens already the top two of the club, Chelsea will also return both Djordje Petrovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga from their respective loan agreements.

More to follow.
