Manchester United needs as much money as they can get this summer and hoped to take advantage of the reported relocation of Alvaro Carreras to Real Madrid after negotiating a sales clause when they sold it to Benfica
Manchester United could miss a big windfall for former player Alvaro Carreras, in which Real Madrid is said to be difficult to agree to a deal for the Benfica star. Carreras came to United as a teenager in 2020, but moved to the Portuguese side last year.
And after a fantastic year in the Primeira Liga, Carreras now generates enormous interest from the European elite and hoped to take advantage of a transfer.
When United sold the left back to Benfica for about £ 5 million last summer, club officers would have negotiated a sales clause between 40 and 50 percent.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United Hierarchy could have looked at a windfall of £ 20 million after reports Madrid considered paying his £ 42 million release clause.
United urgently needs extra money in the midst of their dangerous financial situation this summer. Ratcliffe previously revealed that the club was on its way not to have no money at Christmas and had a ruthless cost -saving regime.
The ticket prices have already been raised, with concessions and free lunches in the canteen -ax – and a number of exit is expected this summer, because United seems to get expensive players from the wage account.
But a boost of money injection of the Carreras deal now looks unlikely after Marca claimed that Real Madrid is willing to lose him because they do not believe that he is worth his release clause.
Benfica reportedly refuses to admit to their price of £ 42 million for the 22-year-old, but Madrid has told them that they are willing to walk away from the deal, according to the earlier claim that the men of Xabi Alonso had already agreed a deal.
The report adds that Benfica wants as much money as possible because they know that United must have a large part of the transfer costs.
Madrid would like to sign a new left back for Alonso, with Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia their only recognized options in the position. Instead, Alonso was able to move to his ex-Leverkusen star Alex Grimaldo.
Carreras started 30 games for Benfica in the Portuguese top flight, scored four and assisted three in all competitions.
Every money that United can receive for his signature will help them enormously strengthen their own team. Ruben Amorim's side has already drawn Wolves star Matheus Cunha, while a deal for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford seems to be close by.
