Barcelona aware of UEFA Champions League punishment – expect financial sanction

Barcelona was back in the headlines for their finances on Tuesday evening. This time it is UEFA and not La Liga they fell over, and it could see them punished in the Champions League.

The Blaugrana currently has a legal business open with La Liga about the registrations of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor this season. Both were only registered after an appeal at the Supreme Court for Sport in Spain, where La Liga and the RFEF did not register them as Barcelona players, due to the fact that Barcelona had failed to increase their salary limit on time to retain their registration.

In October, Barcelona received a fine of € 500K by UEFA for non -compliance with their financial fair play regulations, in which the administrative body said that Barcelona has classified some of their assets incorrectly to change the calculations. Now that this is the second infringement, the word that Barcelona runs the risk of a potential sports sanction for the Champions League of next season, including playing with a reduced team or a point deduction in the competition phase of the competition.

However, as explained by El Chiringuito, this is not news for Barcelona. They were aware that UEFA could punish them again due to breaches from previous seasons. However, they are not worried about the potential sanctions and say they really expect it to be a fine instead of a sporting punishment.

In particular, it is explained that Barcelona expects the fine to be less than the € 500k they have paid this season. This is partly due to the fact that it relates to previous seasons, and that UEFA has established after research that Barcelona has acted 'correctly' to resolve the problem afterwards.
