France cannot replicate PSG style, insists Deschamps

Despite the fact that Ousmane Dembele, Desire Done and Bradley Barcola can be set, France cannot replicate the playing style of Paris Saint-Germain under Luis enrique.

That is the image of the head coach Didier Deschamps of Les Blues, who is preparing for his team to lead a semi -final of the Nations League with Spain on Thursday.

PSG wiped the competition aside when they first won the Champions League, after they also won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France in the second season of Luis Enrique.

They insisted Inter 5-0 in last week's final, the biggest victory margin ever recorded in a European Cup of Champions League pronkpiece.

In that match, Doue was the first player to ever record three target statements at a Champions League final, scored twice and assisted the opener of Achraf Hakimi, while Dembele registered two assists and Barcola was impressed by the bank.

PSG has won compliments for accepting a fairly flowing attacking style in the aftermath of Kylian Mbappe's move to Real Madrid, but Deschamps does not believe that their success will have an impact on the national team.

He said to athletics: “I am not complaining about the players I have, but Hakimi is not French, Marquinhos is not French, (Willian) Pacho is not French, Vitinha is not French, none of the midfielders is French. (Khvica) Kvaratskhelia is Georgian.

“You can't copy and paste things, although what they have done is very good. It works very well and it proves Luis Enrique well. Is it possible to replicate it? Yes. Is there so much time? No. There is much less time.

“I prefer 10 players from two clubs than 10 players from eight clubs. They have an automatic understanding and what they do with their clubs, the national team serves, but that is not always the case.

“Even with the players I can choose … If we take the example of Doucola, they are in competition.

“Sometimes they play together, but sometimes one starts and the other comes. It is difficult to transform things.

“In a club you have the entire week and play matches together after the other, so it's not the same.”

On Thursday, France will be reunited with the side that ended their hope for Euro 2024 success, with Lamine Yamal's Wondergoal that helps Spain along Les Blues in the semi-final of that competition.

Yamal supported that international success with 18 goals and 21 assists for Barcelona when they won Liga and the Copa del Rey in 2024-25, causing Deschamps to lead the Teenage-Vleugel player with Mbappe.

“Yamal is one of those extraordinary players,” said Deschamps. “You only get two or three of them at the same time. He does it after the game and he is still young.

“But to take the example of other players, Kylian is older, but at the age of 18 he did things like Yamal. They can leave a stamp on football very young with what they do.”
