Thirty-Somethings quickly become an endangered species at Real Madrid. The current veterans of the team – Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, Antonio Rüdiger, David Alaba and Ferland Mendy (who will be on 8 June 30) – are exceptions to a team that is being aggressively rebuilt for the future. The club does not hide its intentions: this is a complete youth movement.
As soon as Luka Modrić and Lucas Vázquez close their illustrious career with the club after the FIFA Club World Cup of this summer, and with Dean Huijsen (20) and Trent Alexander -Arnold (26), the average age of the team will be considerably diving -three full years Jonger than the Squadon, that, that Squadon, that, that Squadon, that, that Squadon, that, that Squadon, that, that Squadon, that, that Squadon, that, that Squadon. And the goal is to push it even lower, under the 25-year-old threshold.
Everything under 25. These are players just about star rendom – young, dynamic and still affordable. The exception is Wirtz, who is already a bona fide star with a good price tag and strong links to Liverpool. But even in his case, Madrid believes that the long -term payment could justify the investment, especially considering his age. For now he stays just out of reach – but not yet with Anfield.
Güler helping to take the next step is an important reason why Madrid chose to offer Modrić for less than a year, despite his hope to extend his stay. The club sees 2025 as a breakthrough season for the Turkish midfielder. The departing manager Carlo Ancelotti had so much hinted last month: “I think Arda will become a fantastic central midfielder. He will be very, very important for the future of Real Madrid.”
And it doesn't stop there. This summer, incoming coach Xabi Alonso will take a good look at various youth players from La Fábrica – names such as Jacobo Ramón, Joan Martínez, Diego Aguado and Fortea – while deciding which talents of the soil could play part of the new era.
It is a total shift in philosophy that Modrić is appropriate as the final chapter of an era. In 2023, Madrid separated ways with veterans Karim Benzema (35), Eden Hazard (32) and Casemiro (31). In anticipation of the 2024–25 season, Toni Kroos, Nacho and Joselu – all 34 years – went further. Next in the row: Modrić (39) and Vázquez (33), both of which would leave this summer.
Even the coaching staff reflects this youth movement. While Ancelotti (65) will resign, he will be replaced by the 43-year-old Xabi Alonso a fresh face that still looks like he can reject his boots. Not since the short period of Santiago Solari in 2018–19 (he was 42 at the time) Madrid had such a young manager, and that was a stopgap. This time it is part of the long -term plan. The appointment of Alonso has been in the making for months, whereby the club follows its development at Bayer Leverkusen closely.
